“Mann of the Hour” is a must-hear record from local Minneapolis rapper Cameron Mann. Recorded in a only a few sessions, Cam showcased not only his songwriting talent, but his precise delivery and smooth flow. With our Neumann U87 and the Universal Audio 6176, the vocal tracking was simple, yet classic. Cam’s impressive consistency and diligent preparation made for one of the easiest edits and mix-down’s I’ve done.
Cam’s style is inspired by the golden era of hip-hop, drawing from Nas, Biggie, & 2Pac, but not restricted to it. MOTH invites the listener on a journey through Cam’s mind, exploring his past and future through his regrets and dreams. It’s clear that his daughter is the genesis of much creativity, a theme that resurfaces throughout the album, and one of the reasons why you won’t find an explicit lyric warning on the album cover. MOTH is an album for everyone, from the dark and epic “Can’t Let You Down” to the upbeat, infectious groove of “Doing Me,” I guarantee you’ll find something to suit your taste.
I can only hope there’s more to come in the near future from Cameron Mann. In the meantime, you can stream the album on Soundcloud and purchase it on iTunes. You can also follow Cameron Mann on Facebook.
